iOS 7 is now in the hands of developers and tech enthusiasts alike so I put together a nice pack of abstract wallpapers that complement iOS 7′s new color palette and design. The wallpapers are 1136 by 640 and take advantage of the 4″ retina displays on the iPhone 5 and iPod Touch 5th Gen.

Mobile: Tap on the thumbnail of the wallpaper you want. When the image loads, tap and hold on the image until the “Save Image” option appears. When you click “Save Image” the wallpaper will appear in your Camera Roll. To stay updated with our latest posts, you can add us to your home screen.

Desktop: Scroll down and download the whole pack and then you can sync the photos to your device or email them to yourself.

How To: Install iOS 7 Beta on Your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad (W/ Video Tutorial)

Today Apple announced that iOS 7 will be coming in the fall for consumers, but developers can use iOS 7 starting today with the first beta. If you are not a developer there is still a way to get it but keep in mind that beta software always has bugs and issues. Before doing all of this make sure to back up your device just to be safe.

To get iOS 7 onto your iDevice you’ll need to:

Download the latest version of iTunes
Register Your UDID (some developers/websites can do this for you)
Download iOS 7 firmware for iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch from this link –> iOS 7 Download (coming soon).
Open iTunes and connect your iDevice via USB cable
Select your device from the left navigation pane on iTunes
Hold down the Shift (Windows) or Alt/Option (Mac) key and hit the update button on iTunes
Browse and select the downloaded iOS 7 IPSW file. Let the restore process complete.

After completing all the steps your device should be up and running. If you have any questions you can ask us in the comments below or contact us here.

New Xbox 360 Model Announced, Available Today

A new Xbox 360 model was announced today during Microsoft’s Xbox E3 conference. The new Xbox 360 is said to be Small, Sleek, and Quiet and has a new style matching that of the Xbox One. No specs or pricing was announced so details are slim but we can expect more info to pour in throughout the day.

Update 6.12.13: The new Xbox 360 will keep the same price as the current model.

Xbox 360 E 4GB Console with Kinect – $299.99

No other specs have been announced but it seems to be the same Xbox 360 with a fresh new look to match that one of the Xbox One.

Watch Apple’s WWDC 2013 Keynote Live on Safari from your iPhone, iPod, iPad, Apple TV, and Computer

Apple has decided to live stream this years keynote to allow anyone to tune in. The keynote wil stream on Apple’s website and will work on numerous devices, they also pushed out a WWDC app for Apple TVs to allow those users to tune in from there.

Live Streaming video requires Safari 4 or later on Mac OS X v10.6 or later; Safari on iOS 4.2 or later. Streaming via Apple TV requires second- or third-generation Apple TV with software 5.0.2 or later.

iOS 7 Might Not be Flat After All, ‘All The Leaks Are Wrong’

In the 43rd episode of The Talk Show John Gruber revealed that iOS will not be flat but instead ‘polarizing’.

Gruber: I know absolutely, almost absolutely, nothing. I don’t think I’ve been this ignorant of what’s coming software-wise for a keynote since the iPhone one back in 2007. Which is great. I’m super excited about it.

Gruber: The one thing I keep hearing over and over again from friends who would know. The one word I keep hearing is that some of the stuff they’re gonna show is “polarizing”.

Moltz: ‘Flat’

Gruber: No polarizing.

Gruber: I also heard from somebody that just “all the leaks are wrong”. Which is interesting. I have no idea what to make of it.

Tesla Motors to Cover 98% of the U.S. With Tesla Supercharging Stations Within 3 Years

Tesla Motors has posted a video on YouTube in which Elon Musk details his plans for expanding the Tesla Supercharger Network over the next few years. Most notably, Elon mentioned that there will be a 50% reduction in charging time meaning it will now take 20-22 minutes instead of the previous 40-45 minutes. Charging Tesla cars at these stations is completely free so in a few years you could travel across the country without paying a dime for electricity. Chrome has added two new games to its Chrome Experiments catalog, both of which allow players to interact cross-platform via Chrome on mobile and desktop. The first game is Roll It which gives Skeeball a fresh new look and feel and allows up to three people to play the game on one iOS or Android device.

The other game is Racer which allows you to connect to other mobile devices running Chrome and play a simple racing game which lets users race against each other by simply using their fingers to touch the screen.

Today Microsoft revealed the next generation Xbox and with it some games but, what will the Xbox One be packed with?

Processor and graphics: Customized AMD chip with an eight-core CPU, a GPU tailored for DirectX 11.1 graphics, and 32MB of high bandwidth embedded ESRAM memory.’

System memory: 8GB of RAM (DDR3)

Audio and video: 1080p and 4K; 7.1 surround sound.

Kinect: Bundled with Xbox One. Will contain 250,000-pixel infrared depth sensor as well as a 1080p camera.

Storage and media: 500GB Hard Drive. Games on a disc will be ripped to the HDD automatically.

Connectivity: HDMI 1.4 output and passthrough, USB 3.0 ports, gigabit Ethernet, and three separate 802.11n radios which allow the console to communicate with its controller and other devices without losing its connection to the internet.

Price has yet to be confirmed as well as an exact release date but Microsoft said that the Xbox One will ship around the world later this year. Both the PS4 and Xbox One are very similar in terms of specs but only time will tell which one is better.

Xbox One Unveiled: Microsoft’s Next Generation Console

Microsoft has unveiled the Xbox One, a console which acts like an all-in-one entertainment set-top box. The next gen console is going to focus on different types of content, and use new tech, like cloud interfacing and streaming. It’s really aiming to become an all-in-one home entertainment system.

The system itself is all black with a two-tone matte and gloss finish and sports a slot-loading Blu-ray optical drive which confirms the rumors. The game controller has been re-designed and every console will come with a Kinect in the box. Xbox One will be launched around the world later this year and more information will be given at E3.

Today at Google’s I/O keynote they announced the new maps that we have been waiting for and the wait is worth it. The new Google Maps will be available soon on desktop and this summer for Android and iOS with dedicated apps for tablets and phones.

The entire map is now interactive. Clicking anywhere will focus the map on that location and show you helpful things, like related places and the best ways to get there.

You can now compare multiple modes of transportation right on the map to find the best way there and the best way home.

A map that gets better with use

New Camera App Teased by Clear App Developers [Video]

The developers behind the Clear To-Do app for iOS have announced the Analog Camera app for iOS which will be a mobile version of the currently available, Analog for Mac. The app makes it super simple to take a picture, add a filter, and then share to Twitter and Facebook without any complications.

You Can Now Control Someone Else’s Desktop With Google Hangouts

What makes this great is that you can still talk and see each other at the same time since you are still in a Hangout. This should be a relieve to those who help out family and friends with computer problems, but you might still need to teach them how to use Google+.

How to Use Google Glass [Video]

Google has posted a tutorial on how to use Google Glass to familiarize people with the interface. Google Glass has a touchpad on the right side which turns Glass on by simply touching it and then from there you can swipe left to see current events and right to see past events like pictures, videos, and messages.

Glass Explorer Edition units are still in the process of being handed out to developers, #ifihadglass winners will be notified shortly afterwards, but the consumer version of Glass is still 6-12 months away so don’t get your hopes up just yet. Leap into Google Earth! We are excited to announce that Google Earth now supports Leap Motion. Soon you’ll soar around San Francisco, the Grand Canyon, Paris, NYC and more.

The leap Motion Controller isn’t set to ship until mid-may but that won’t stop them from teasing us with videos. I was able to get my hands on the device at SXSW and it will be awesome as long as developers support it. Check out my hands on below and the Google Earth+Leap Motion video above.

First Google Glass Unboxing & New Details

Developers who signed up for the Google Glass Explorer edition last year at Google I/O will soon be getting them. We have known how Glass looks and performs for a while but we didn’t know what people would be getting in the box for the $1500 price tag. To relieve us of the curiosity Brandon Allgood got his hands on the Google Glass box and revealed what’s inside the box.

Inside the box you get two different visors(Clear & Tinted), a carrying bag, a power adapter, a power cord and Google Glass itself. Google also revealed more details about Glass and said that the glasses have adjustable nose pads and that the screen is comparable to a 25-inch high-definition screen eight feet away.

Glass connects to the Internet using Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, has 12 gigabytes of usable storage, and the battery lasts about a day but that is dependent on how many videos a person records. Google has also released the My Glass app for Android which allows users to set up Glass. If you aren’t one of the lucky few that will get Glass in the upcoming months then the app is useless, unless you download it and wait until the end out this year to buy Glass when it’s a consumer product.

By now most of us should be familiar with Google Glass and what its intended purpose is, but what most of us don’t know is how exactly it works. Martin Missfeldt, a German designer, has created an infographic to show how Google Glass works.

Google Glass is expected to go on sale to the public towards the end of the year and cost around $1,000 US dollars. You might start seeing people wearing Glass in the next couple of months since developers and selected members of the public will have their hands on them before everyone else but they will have to shell out $1,500.

Next Generation Xbox might be announced on May 21st

We are a little over two months away from E3 and all of the major gaming announcements of the year and since Sony has already teased us with the PS4 it is Microsofts turn. Paul Thurrott recently revealed that Microsoft is planning an event on May 21st to announce the next generation Xbox console.

The event was originally scheduled for April 24th but was moved to a later date. In the event Microsoft might reveal all of the new consoles details and features or it could pull a PlayStation and keep some details secret until E3 in June.

Apple Low-Cost iPhone Concept Features A Translucent Back Cover

For a long time there have been rumors that Apple might make a low-cost iPhone in order to compete with low-cost smartphones. A new concept by Nickolay Lamm and Matteo Gianni shows what Apple’s cheaper iPhone would look like if it had a translucent plastic chassis. The device takes design cues from the iMac G3 and closely resembles Apple’s latest iPod Touch.

“The reason the iMac was made transparent was to make it seem less alien to consumers. Before the iMac, computers were all in a box shape and in gray color. The ability to see inside the computer made the device seem less mysterious and much more personal.”

A while back when Windows Phone 7 came out, Microsoft made so you could use and preview Windows Phone 7 from your iOS or Android device to get a feel for the software. Blackberry decided to follow by allowing iOS users to run Blackberry 10 on their device.

By going to Blackberry.com/glimpse iOS users can get a glimpse of Blackberry’s latest software. The demo works and gives people an idea of how the software runs but it is not nearly as smooth as the real thing.

Amazon Adds File Sync to Cloud Drive, Becomes a Viable Alternative to Dropbox

Amazon’s Cloud Drive has been around for a while and wasn’t really up to par with SkyDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, and others alike. Today, Amazon added File Sync which allows files that are placed in specific folders to be automatically synced with any other computers that have Cloud Drive installed. The update isn’t monumental but it does make Cloud Drive a worthy opponent when stacked up to all of the other major cloud file storage services.

Google Begins to Roll Out its April Fools Day Jokes

Every year Google participates in April Fools and they do some pretty unique things. Today, YouTube uploaded a video telling the world that YouTube has actually been a contest since 2005 to find the worlds best video and it that it will be shutting off tonight until 2023 to be able to pick which video is the best. Last year Google did one about a Fiber Bar which was particularly interesting because shortly after, they announced Google Fiber.

Google should be rolling out more videos today and tommorow but until then you can play around with the new “Treasure” mode on Google Maps. “Treasure” mode allows you to view the world as if it was a treasure map and Street View even has been skinned to match.

I have never been able to buy a flashlight and keep it with me without it disturbing my pocket or making my keychain bulky. The folks at Iain Sinclair sent me the Eon Classic, an “Everlasting Credit Card Flashlight” which believe it or not is a flashlight with the footprint of a credit card.

The flashlight is minimalistic and at first glance it doesn’t look like a flashlight. The light is encased in plastic and that plastic has brushed steel on the top and bottom. There are no screws or anything that allow you to open the flashlight, it is sealed and meant to not be opened since it comes with pre-installed lithium batteries which are said to last from 5 to 10 years. It also has two LED’s on the front which are extremely bright and works for most cases but you wouldn’t want this to be your only source of light in a dark cave.

There is one button which requires about two pounds of pressure to activate which is both good and bad. It’s good because the card won’t accidentally turn on when its in your wallet or pocket but, it’s actually quite difficult to hold the card with one hand and keep two pounds of pressure on it for a long time. The flashlight is rounded like a credit card and the edges are smooth so the steel doesn’t dig into your hands when using it.

Conclusion

There isn’t much too say about the flashlight because it manages to be what it says it is, a credit card flashlight. The light fits perfectly in my wallet, it is there when I need it and when I do need it, it works. The light goes for around $15 on the web and I recommend it if you want a minimal flashlight that you can use from time to time. If you’re looking for a flashlight to accompany you through a walk in the woods then I recommend that you keep searching web.

iPhone 5S Being Announced On June 20th?

It has been speculated recently that Apple might begin launching iPhones in the summer like the old days. The MacFan magazine, Macotakara, is said to have revealed that the launch date for the iPhone 5S will be held on June 20th.

The date does match up with past iPhone launches and most likely this new iPhone will have a feature that will have everybody talking. iOS 7 will also be announced and is said to have a more flat design style which I am looking forward to. We should find out in the coming months whether or not the event will take place in June.

We got our hands on the Leap Motion here at SXSW and, in my opinion, it’s a pretty neat device. Leap is $80 and ships May 13th to those who pre-order and will be available to for purchase at Best Buy stores starting May 19th. Leap is small, compact, and nicely designed. Many people might find it to be a waste of $80 but we won’t know for sure until we see how many apps are going to be available and if developers will keep making apps for the device. Google Unveils the ‘Talking Shoe’ At SXSW [Video]

Today, Google unveiled a smart shoe. The shoe is a concept for now but people can try it out at Google’s SXSW Playground. In my opinion, I don’t see any potential in the shoes. The shoe is able broadcast its story to the web but at this point that is it, maybe if they add power laces they would be more interesting.

Using an accelerometer, a gyroscope, Bluetooth and some other off the shelf technologies, the Talking Shoe translates the wearer’s movements into funny, motivating and timely commentary. The things it says can be posted to Google+ by the user, sent to real-time ad units, if the user chooses to, and broadcast via onboard speakers. It can talk to the world and to the web.

I personally wasn’t able to try on the shoes but people didn’t look like they were enjoying the shoe, they were enjoying the activities they had at the playground. You can follow me on twitter here for more updates and check out Google’s video on the shoe above.

Google Announces Chromebook Pixel, A high-end Chromebook with A Touch ‘Retina’ Display [Video]

Google has officially announced the Chromebook Pixel, a high-end Chromebook with a higher pixel density than Apple’s MacBook Pro with Retina Display. The computer comes with one terabyte of Google Drive cloud storage which expires after two years but there isn’t anything that really stands out. If you aren’t familiar with Chromebooks, the laptops can’t run any other software or apps other than what comes installed on the computer which include things like Gmail, Google Chrome, Docs, and a bunch more of Google services.

The Chromebook Pixel is available for purchase starting today on the Google Play Store in the U.S. and U.K., and soon on BestBuy.com. The laptop is available in two variations, a WiFi version ($1,299 U.S. and £1,049 U.K.) which will start shipping next week and an LTE version ($1,449) that will ship in the U.S. in April. The price isn’t very appealing considering the limited capabilities of the computer but maybe the video and specs below will change you’re mind.

At today’s Sony Playstation Conference they announced the PlayStation 4 along with a new DualShock controller. The DualShock 4 was the only hardware shown today by Sony and has the same general design as its predecessors. The controller’s most noticeable design change is the touchpad in the middle but it also sports a share button, headphone jack, and a light bar which will be used to identify players by color coding and the PlayStation camera will be able to track it for more advanced motion controls.

Google to Join Apple and Microsoft with a retail store of their own by 2014?

Google is said to be planning to open retail stores of their own by the end of the year. 9to5Google says that Google wants to have its first flagship Google Stores open for the holidays in major metropolitan areas.

The mission of the stores is to get new Google Nexus, Chrome, and especially upcoming products into the hands of prospective customers. Google feels right now that many potential customers need to get hands-on experience with its products before they are willing to purchase.

My understanding is that these new stores will operate independently and make direct sales to customers from Google like the Nexus online store does currently.

Making a retail store makes sense considering Google is getting in to the hardware business. These stores will be more important for Google Glass since customers will need to see the Glasses first hand in order to consider purchasing the product.

MailBox App Finally Arrives In The App Store

The long awaited Mailbox app for iOS has finally been released. Once downloaded, the app will take you to a reservation screen where you can join the list or input the reservation code you received if you signed up in the past. At the moment the app only works with Gmail but the company does plan on expanding to other mail services in the future.

A while back Ryan Petrich released tweak for the iPad which stretched iPhone apps to fit the screen without using the “2x” function. Petrich has now released a new tweak that forces apps without support for 4 inch devices to fit the screen. The tweak doesn’t work with all apps but it should do the trick for most. The tweak, FullForce, is available for purchase from Cydia for $0.99.

Apple has posted a document warning users of problems that could arise if they decide to “Jailbreak” their device. This seems to be like more of a scare tactic from Apple to those who haven’t jailbroken their devices in the past. From hands-on experience, I can tell you that problems do arise from time to time especially if you don’t know the difference from what you can install and shouldn’t install. If you would like to jailbreak your device running iOS 6-iOS 6.1 and not listen to Apple then head over to the Evasi0n website, download the program, follow the instructions, and in very little time your device will be jailbroken.

As designed by Apple, iOS and iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch are designed to work together reliably. Unauthorized modifications to iOS (“jailbreaking”) can cause numerous issues to the hacked iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. Examples of issues caused by these unauthorized modifications to iOS have included the following:

Instability: Frequent and unexpected crashes of the device, crashes and freezes of built-in apps and third-party apps, and loss of data.

Security vulnerabilities: Security compromises have been introduced by these modifications that could allow hackers to steal personal information, damage the device, attack the wireless network, or introduce malware or viruses.

Shortened battery life: The hacked software has caused an accelerated battery drain that shortens the operation of an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch on a single battery charge.

Unreliable voice and data: Dropped calls, slow or unreliable data connections, and delayed or inaccurate location data.

Disruption of services: Services such as Visual Voicemail, Weather, and Stocks have been disrupted or no longer work on the device. Additionally, third-party apps that use the Apple Push Notification Service have had difficulty receiving notifications or received notifications that were intended for a different hacked device. Other push-based services such as iCloud and Exchange have experienced problems synchronizing data with their respective servers.

Inability to apply future software updates: Some unauthorized modifications have caused damage to iOS that is not repairable. This can result in the hacked iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch becoming permanently inoperable when a future Apple-supplied iOS update is installed.

Apple strongly cautions against installing any software that hacks iOS. It is also important to note that unauthorized modification of iOS is a violation of iOS end-user license agreement and because of this, Apple may deny service for an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that has installed any unauthorized software.

Leaked Photo of the Apple’s Upcoming iPad 5 Back Plate?

9To5Mac has gotten their hands on an image which shows the back plate for the next generation iPad. The image is said to come from a purported China-based accessory maker and based on past experiences with leaked parts this is most likely what the next iPad will look like.

While we cannot confirm that the above image is legitimate, it does provide a solid representation of what Apple’s next iPad will likely look like. We were told this is a prototype back piece for the fifth-generation iPad with a 9.7-inch display. We were also told that the casing is almost as thin as the iPad mini’s back (pictured to the right). As you can see at the top of the purported iPad 5 backplate, this casing would likely be for an LTE model – as the black antenna cut implies…

The iPad 5 casing looks nearly identical to that of the iPad Mini so there isn’t anything too exciting, check out the image below…

iOS 6.1 Jailbreak Might Be Released this Sunday, Will support all 22 Device Variations

If you are planning on Jailbreaking your device then it is recommended that you don’t do an OTA upgrade and instead make a full restore using iTunes because, as MuscleNerd tweeted, , “OTA is more time consuming for us to test, and it gives you different SHSH blobs than normal restore.” Stay tuned for a tutorial on how to Jailbreak your device later this week.

Why does Vine take up so much space? Here’s why and how to fix it!

I’ve been using Vine for the past couple of days since it was released and noticed that as I view peoples Vines and cancel ones that I decide not to upload, the amount of space the app took up increased significantly. The app size itself is only 8.2 MB but since its release it has gone up to 837 MB. Why? Because I have posted one, canceled 4, and browsed around 400 different Vines all of which are stored on your device in the background.

What to do?

First Option- You can download a program like iExplorer and go into Vines “tmp” folder and delete or save as you please. What happens when you delete them from iExplorer? Nothing other than freeing up space. My posts and likes are still on my profile but the ones I didn’t post are deleted which was my initial intention.

Second Option- You can also go into Settings>General>Usage and delete the app along with its contents, this will free up everything and you can just re-download the app. The only difference is that you can’t save any of your none posted Vines but it gets the job done. I do want to mention again that every Vine that you load is stored whether you “like” it or not.

Due to recent rumors and reports of an even larger iPhone that could fill the gap between the iPhone 5 and iPad Mini, AppleDigger.ru has gone ahead created a mockup of what the larger iPhone with a 4.8-inch screen would look like if it had the same design principle as the iPhone 5.

Upcoming BlackBerry Z10 Compared to iPhone 5 [Video]

A video by Telekom-Presse has been posted on YouTube comparing the upcoming BlackBerry Z10 against iPhone 5. The new BlackBerry features a 4.2-inch screen along with HDMI and USB connectivity. The device is also expected to sport a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 2GBs of RAM, and an 8MP camera. The software running on the device in the video isn’t final and device is likely to be announced on January 30th. We will have to wait and see to actually do a fare comparison of the two but for now check out the video below.

In the past few weeks rumors have re-surfaced that Apple might be working on a cheaper iPhone. The french website, nowhereelse, has posted a mockup that shows what an iPhone with a 3.5 inch screen would look like if it kept the iPhone 5 design. Many reports have said that the cheaper iPhone might have a plastic shell as opposed to the sleek anodized aluminum but I personally don’t see this happening. Check out the mockups below.

Fitbit has introduced Flex which is their take of a Wireless Activity + Sleep Wristband that syncs with your iPhone, iPad, computer, or Android device using Bluetooth 4.0. Similar to the Fitbit One, the Fitbit Flex tracks how many steps you take in a day, total distance travelled, and calories burned, as well as how much sleep you get. The device looks promising and has some perks that others like the Nike Fuel and Jawbone Up seem to lack.
