Z4 Aurora Smart Projector Raises Over 100K on IndieGoGo

There are two categories in the tech market that have been making quite a splash recently: projectors and crowdfunding. In the case of the XGIMI Z4 Aurora, those two combined to make a very popular campaign on one of the largest crowdfunding websites, IndieGoGo.

So what makes the Z4 special? Well, a few things.

For starters, the projector outputs a 700 lumen, 1280×800 resolution picture at up to 300″, and for just $449.00 (that’s the current offering on IGG; will increase to $699.00 after the campaign). The projector is also able to receive inputs of up to 4K quality, and can output a 3D image with active-shutter 3D glasses. Additionally, the internal bulb is rated to last 30,000 hours, so you should get plenty of movies out of it.

Z4 Aurora 3Of course, none of this is entirely special, until you look at the other built-in features. The first of which is sound. Projectors are commonly associated with having very poor internal speakers, and XGIMI wanted to change that. As a result, they have constructed the Z4 with a custom Harman Kardon stereo speaker set, which should theoretically sound awesome, as HK is known to have very high-quality sound products.

Next up is connectivity. Built into the Z4 system is WiFi, Bluetooth, HDMI, USB, ethernet and AV ports. This allows for a very versatile system. You can hook your computer up to it via HDMI, plug in a flash drive, or stream wirelessly from your laptop, tablet, or phone.

Z4 Aurora 2Moving along, we’ll now talk about some of the cooler features the Z4 has to offer. For one, that record-player-looking thing on the top is actually a 3D gesture control, allowing you to play, pause, fast forward, and control the volume. For example, let’s say you want to raise the volume. Well, all you need to do is swirl your finger in a clockwise direction above the “record”, and that’s it!

Last but not least, one of the awesome features found on the Z4 is the custom Android OS built into the system. This means you don’t actually need any other device to interact with the Z4. Find a video on the YouTube app or watch a movie with the Netflix app. Simple.

I really look forward to seeing how this product turns out, as it is quite innovative for the projector market, and that extra boost may be exactly what the market needs to truly become a commonality within homes. Amazon Announces Two New Alexa-Enabled Speakers

Amazon has announced two new Alexa-enabled speakers that connect to your Wi-Fi network and allow you to control smart devices in your as well as ask it a bunch of questions like you would with Google Now or Siri. Both new devices are complementary to the Amazon Echo and not replacing it. first we have the Echo Dot which is the tiny and least expensive version made to be put in numerous rooms. The Echo Tap has a very small speaker intended for using it as an Alarm Clock or something that doesn’t require much sound since it’s a device that will need an external speaker to really shine. Second we have Amazon Tap which is portable version of the Echo and is very reminiscent of some of Logitech’s speakers.

I had been contemplating the purchase of an Echo for some time now but I’m happy I waited. I already have many bluetooth speakers in my home so another one would be pointless. The Echo Tap is perfect for anyone wanting to turn their current speakers into a smart device that doesn’t need to connect to your phone to play music or tell you a joke which is just great. Both devices will be launching towards the end of March but are available for pre-order today, Amazon Tap ($129.99), Echo Dot($89.99).

  • Echo Dot

    • Uses the Alexa Voice Service to play music, provide information, read the news, set alarms, control smart home devices, and more using just your voice
    • Connects speakers over Bluetooth or with the included audio cable to play music from Prime Music, Spotify, Pandora, iHeartRadio, and TuneIn
    • Includes a built-in speaker so it can work on its own as a smart alarm clock in the bedroom, an assistant in the kitchen, or anywhere you might want a voice-controlled computer
    • Hears you from across the room with far-field voice recognition, even while music is playing
    • Controls smart home devices like lights, switches, thermostats, and more with compatible connected devices from WeMo, Philips Hue, Samsung SmartThings, ecobee, and others
    • Always getting smarter and adding new features and skills

  • Amazon Tap

    • Just tap and ask for music from Prime Music, Spotify, Pandora, iHeartRadio, and TuneIn
    • Uses the Alexa Voice Service when connected to Wi-Fi or a mobile hotspot to play music, read the news, provide weather reports, and even order a pizza
    • Streams all your music via Bluetooth from your phone or tablet
    • Delivers crisp sound powered by Dolby, with dual stereo speakers that provide 360º omni-directional audio

Apple TV Review – The Best Media Player of 2015?

The 2015 Apple TV is the best product if you want to give some new life to your old (or new) tv. The interface is beautiful and very simple to navigate through. The controller is small yet packed with features and the box itself is simple and minimal. Some people aren’t even considering getting the Apple TV due to its lack of 4K support but as an owner of a 4K tv I can tell you that this isn’t as big of a deal as it has been made out to be. My 4K tv is able to upscale the Apple TV’s interface, games, and videos to the point where everything looks like it is 4K content. If Apple had said that this had 4K support then I would not have doubted it since everything just looks amazing on a 4K TV.

The full video review of the Apple TV can be seen below but if you just want a rundown of what makes this better to the other boxes in the market, I will tell you straight away that it’s the UI and Apps. The iOS App Store is a testament of how good Apple is at getting developers to get apps on their platforms and the tvOS store is no different. Apps are being added all the time and will keep being added which is completely different to the competition right now. The UI of the Apple TV is also very modern and simple which gives your tv a breath of fresh air and it also makes it easy for all of your family members to be able to use it.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Finger Print Sensor Not Responding?

I have been using the Samsung Galaxy S7 for a few days now and it’s a great phone but one thing has been annoying me. The fingerprint sensor on my unit has something wrong with it and there seems to be no fix. I have tried everything to fix the sensor and nothing works.

I sometimes get a dialogue saying “Make sure that the Home key is clean and dry, then try again”. Other times I get a full on error message telling me to reboot the phone but…guess what? Rebooting the phone does not work. The same dialogue appears in settings and in apps that require the fingerprint sensor. I tried restoring the device to factory settings and setting the phone up as a new device still doesn’t work. So how do we fix the fingerprint sensor on the S7?

From my experience so far… there is no direct fix for this. I’m hoping it’s a software bug that Samsung can address in a future update but for now there is one thing that I noticed. The fingerprint seems to stop working after the phone heats up a lot and the problem is the that the S7 heats up with pretty much any app that you open for more than ten minutes. Just letting the phone cool seems to get it back to working condition, this only works from time to time though. There reason why this is a big deal is because I like to unlock my device with a fingerprint everytime so I have it set to require authentication each time the device is awakened so I don’t have to put any code or drag up to unlock. You can put it so it only asks for authentication whenever it is inactive for a certain amount of time and that’s actually how it comes out of the box. You could also just not use the fingerprint sensor but with Samsung Pay and other apps using the fingerprint sensor there’s no real way to avoid the fingerprint sensor without always knowing that it would be much more convenient to have it on.

I have reached out to other S7 owners and they said they have not had any issues so it could be that my unit is defective and requires a replacement. If you have an S7 and can return it for a replacement then I would advise doing so as Samsung has yet to address this issue. The problem is that if they never address the issue then you’ll be left with a device that you won’t be able to resell for a good enough price in a year or two because the finger print sensor doesn’t work. Before returning it just make sure you try factory resetting your device just to make sure that the fingerprint sensor is as faulty as mine. This post is really to tell you not to waste your time trying a bunch of different methods to fix it since I spent hours trying to fix the sensor and nothing worked.

Top 5 Features of the Samsung Galaxy S7!

The Samsung Galaxy S7 doesn’t officially ship until next week but that didn’t keep T-Mobile from shipping out some pre-orders early to customers. Jacob Zacks already has his unit on hand and has made a quick video talking about the Galaxy S7’s best features and the differences to the Galaxy S6. Check out the video below…

Canon Announces the EOS-1D X Mark II, A 4K Capable Flagship DSLR

Last year Sony stole the spotlight with their Sony A7r II and A7s II but it seems that Canon and Nikon want to take some of the spotlight back this year. Canon has been rapidly loosing users as they switch to Sony’s mirrorless cameras but with their announcement of the EOS-1D X Mark II it looks like Canon is back on the game. This camera isn’t very consumer oriented since the body-only will retail for $6,000. The great thing is that this might lead to more of their consumer-grade DSLR’s getting 4K support. Here is a video from B&H detailing the new features of the 1D X Mark II:

Here is a full overview of the camera by Canon:

Immense power. Phenomenal speed. A remarkable combination of innovation and refinement. The new EOS-1D X Mark II camera is nothing but legendary every step of the way. Building on a heritage of sophisticated innovation, the EOS-1D X Mark II is blazingly fast. Up to 14 fps* (up to 16 fps* in Live View mode) can be captured at a burst rate of up to 170 RAWs with a CFast™ card, and an improved 61-point AF system helps deliver clean, sharp images quickly, even in dim light. This remarkable speed means faster recording too: 4K video can be recorded at up to 60 fps with smooth AF and strikingly clear detail. Combined with superb low-light performance thanks to its powerful sensor and expandable ISO range, the EOS-1D X Mark II performs brilliantly, swiftly and stunningly no matter when or where the photographer is shooting. From the stadium, safari or studio to virtually everywhere in between, the EOS-1D X Mark II maintains and enhances all the hallmarks of what Canon has to offer, marking a new page in the legacy of the EOS series of cameras.

sProjector Promises 1080p Full HD at 1000 Lumens Projection in Small Package

Projectors seem to be becoming much more popular, with pico projectors popping up all over, and home theater projectors becoming quite a bit more affordable. Among all of this buzz is a project on called the sProjector. The sProjector is trying to combine all of the best of home theater projectors and pico projectors into one small, neat, and powerful package.

sProjector 2The sProjector comes in at just 150 grams, or just 1/3 of a pound at a size of 70mm x 130mm x 15mm, or 2.75in x 5.1in x 0.6in, which is about the size of an average hand. With these physical specifications, this projector would be considered a pico projector.

However, where we were surprised was with the fact that the sProjector boasts a high-resolution display of 1080p, with a very bright (for the size) 1000 lumens. For comparison, the Celluon PicoPro, a similarly-sized projector, can only produce a 720p image at 32 lumens. And a larger pico projector, the AAXA P300, can only produce a 720p image at 400 lumens.

Additional features of the sProjector include its 5-hour battery life, lack of a noisy fan (without overheating), and low price of $249.99, while other less-featured picos cost anywhere from $250-$400. Plus, the company is including a remote and TV dongle with the projector, which can be plugged into sProjector to tune into TV signals without the need for an Internet connection.

sProjector 3Now, let’s talk connections, because this thing doesn’t lack in that area either! The sProjector comes equipped with a mini-HDMI port (adapter for full HDMI included), USB port, microUSB port, 3.5mm port, Bluetooth, and WiFI 802.11 b/g/n. With these connections, you can wirelessly mirror your device through Miracast, plug in a laptop or Chromecast, or stream directly over WiFi through the use of the projector’s UI, which runs on a customized Android Lollipop OS.

The sProjector can be purchased in white, black, or gold, and it is set to ship later this month. The IndieGoGo campaign was incredibly successful, hitting over 5000% of the initial goal, totaling over half a million dollars.

So, this thing has to be fake, right? Well, the promo video and the crazy amount of features on the projector certainly made it seem like that was the case. However, the company has been putting out updates and showing their progress, with recent videos (found below) showcasing the projector actually working, convincing me to believe it may just be real!

If the sProjector is real, then Silver Star, the company behind sProjector, has just made a major breakthrough in the pico projector market, and I’ll be very excited to see it!
