How Does Pokémon Go’s ‘Nearby’ Pawprint Feature Work?

One of Pokémon Go’s most annoying aspects is the fact that you can’t tell in which direction or just how far away that Pokémon you are trying to catch is. The developers behind the app have been very vague regarding that feature but I believe there is reasoning behind it. If you came here looking for a representation of distance every Pawprint indicates then you’ll be happy to know that there is a number but it’s quite vague. I have been told that during the beta each Pawprint indicated 50 meters while is reporting that the first Pawprint translates to 20 meters, 2 prints is 100 meters, and 3 prints is nearly 1 kilometer.

Pokemon Go Pawprint Disntance to Pokemon How It Works

Which is the more accurate? Well, from my experience it really varies but I don’t think that’s such a bad thing. Just the other day I was at a park and everybody in the park was helping each other out as to where each Pokémon was. In my opinion, this lack of information just makes each new Pokémon you catch feel far more satisfying. A direction indicator would definitely help in finding Pokémon but at the end of the day it’s the thrill of the hunt that makes it fun! If you are completely set out on catching all of the Pokémon on your radar then there is a way but it requires some time to exeggcute it. A redditor by the name of DJToaster has devised this elaborate plan:

How To Find Pokemon Go Pokemon in Radar Distance

Google Photos Announced, Includes Free Unlimited Photo & Video Backup

Today during Google I/O, Google announced the long awaited Photos app. This announcement got one of the biggest round of applause at the keynote due to the fact that Google will save full resolution images up to 16mp and Full HD video for free! The app will use Google’s search algorithms to allow you to search for images like you would on Google and also keep your images organized. Their new app, “Google Photos”, will be available on Android, iOS, and PC later today.

full photo backup for free

Every second of every day, people around the world are capturing their memories through photos and videos. Humankind has already taken trillions of photos and will take another trillion this year alone.

But the more moments we capture, the more challenging it becomes to relive those memories. Photos and videos become littered across mobile devices, old computers, hard drives and online services (which are constantly running out of space). It’s almost impossible to find that one photo right at the moment you need it, and sharing a bunch of photos at once is frustrating, often requiring special apps and logins.

We wanted to do better. So today we’re introducing Google Photos—a new, standalone product that gives you a home for all your photos and videos, helps you organize and bring your moments to life, and lets you share and save what matters.

A home for all your photos and videos

Google Photos gives you a single, private place to keep a lifetime of memories, and access them from any device. They’re automatically backed up and synced, so you can have peace of mind that your photos are safe, available across all your devices.

And when we say a lifetime of memories, we really mean it. With Google Photos, you can now backup and store unlimited, high-quality photos and videos, for free. We maintain the original resolution up to 16MP for photos, and 1080p high-definition for videos, and store compressed versions of the photos and videos in beautiful, print-quality resolution. For all the storage details, visit our help center.

Organize and bring your moments to life

Google Photos automatically organizes your memories by the people, places, and things that matter. You don’t have to tag or label any of them, and you don’t need to laboriously create albums. When you want to find a particular shot, with a simple search you can instantly find any photo—whether it’s your dog, your daughter’s birthday party, or your favorite beach in Santa Barbara. And all of this auto-grouping is private, for your eyes only.

The app can also help you quickly enhance photos and combine them in new ways to help you relive your life’s moments. In one tap, get instant adjustments tuned to the photo’s color, lighting, and subject to make each photo look its best. Press the “+” button to create your own collages, animations, movies with soundtracks, and more.

If you swipe to the left, you’ll open the Assistant view, where we’ll suggest new things made with your photos and videos, such as a collage or a story based on a recent trip you took. After previewing the creation, you can choose to keep, edit, or discard it.

Easily share and save what matters

With Google Photos, you have the choice to share your photos and videos however you want across any service you choose, from Hangouts to Twitter to WhatsApp. But even then, it’s still remarkably difficult to share a lot of photos just with friends and family and keep the ones shared with you—it usually involves a lot of downloading and re-uploading across a number of different services. We wanted to make sharing much simpler and more reliable.

You can now take any set of photos and videos, or any album, and simply create a link to share hundreds of photos at once. The recipient can see what you shared without a special app or login, then immediately save the high-quality images to their own library with a single tap. So now it’s easier to hang on to the photos you care about even if you weren’t the one holding the camera.

If you want to give Google Photos a whirl, it will be available later today across Android, iOS and the web. With this launch we’ve made a lot of progress towards eliminating many of the frustrations involved in storing, editing and sharing your memories. But we have a lot more in store—so as you keep snapping photos and capturing videos, we’ll keep working on making them even easier to store, share and bring to life.

Facebook Releases Slingshot, An App to Compete With Snapchat

Remember Facebook’s Poke app? If you don’t, I don’t blame you. Poke was Facebook’s Snapchat competitor which failed to catch on and was removed from the App Store. Facebook has now released Slingshot on iOS and Android which is essentially a new and improved version of Poke. Slingshot takes cues from some of Snapchat’s competitors to bring something easy to use with a fresh user interface.

Slingshot lets you quickly share moments—little and big—with lots of people at once. Shoot a photo or video of what you’re up to and sling it to a bunch of friends. They won’t be able to see your shot until they sling something back. Tap on a shot to react, or simply swipe it away.

• Stay in touch: Capture photos and videos of moments you want to share with friends
• Go shot for shot: To unlock new shots, first you have to sling something back
• Enjoy it while it lasts: Once you swipe a shot away, it’ll no longer be viewable
• Send a quick reply: After unlocking a shot, respond with your reaction
• Get creative: Express yourself with captions and drawings
• Look when you want: View unlocked shots later if you’re busy

Amazon Launches Prime Music, A Music Streaming Service

Amazon’s Prime Music streaming service is now live and it gives Amazon Prime members free access to over a million songs along with hundreds of playlists. Starting today, Prime members can go to the Prime Music website or on the Amazon Music app and get unlimited/ad-free access to all of the songs the streaming service has to offer.

Amazon Music Streaming Service

A million songs isn’t really much compared to a service like Spotify which has nearly twenty times that, but these million songs might be enough to get people hooked to the service. One big setback is that Amazon is still in talks with Universal Music Group to get top artists like Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, and Jay-Z onto the service but those are just a few of the many artists that Prime Music doesn’t have yet. For me the Universal Music Group deal isn’t a deal breaker since I am currently not subscribed to any music streaming service and do have an Amazon Prime membership, it’s just great to hear that this service is included in the membership. If you don’t have Amazon Prime, you can sign up for a 30 day free trial to try out the service beforehand.

Prime music launch free

There is no doubt people will use the service, what we don’t know is if Amazon is heading in a the path to compete with other services like Rdio and Spotify or if it just wants to get to people that have yet to jump on the music streaming bandwagon. We’ll have to wait and see what happens.

The Amazon Music app comes as an update to the existing Amazon music player apps and it is in part of putting all of Amazon’s current music services under one app. The app is currently available on the App Store (iOS) and will be coming soon to Google Play (Android).

Drone Delivery for Pills and Prescriptions Coming to San Francisco

A few months ago Amazon showed off its plans for Prime Air which brought a lot of attention to how businesses could deliver products to consumers in a faster more efficient way through the use of drones.  A company in San Francisco, QuiQui, is planning to launch a 24/7 delivery service for pills and prescriptions that will get the product to you within 15 minutes of ordering.

San Francisco recently ruled in favor of using drones for commercial purposes, the service will launch in the Mission District due to the “lack of tall buildings and relatively flat landscape”. QuiQui is planning its first flights for summer of this year and will charge $1.00 per delivery plus the cost of your goods. If you live in San Francisco you can sign up for the beta by visiting their website.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is all this legal?

It most certainly is. Recently the FAA lost a lawsuit allowing it to ban commercial drones. Additionally, full size aircraft must maintain 500 feet from populated places and landmarks. Our drones fly below 500 feet AGL, and nowhere near airports.

Can you deliver my prescription?

We’re working with local pharmacies to offer prescription delivery. Now you don’t have to scurry all over town trying to get your prescription refilled.

Why only drug store items?

Unfortunately, it’s not commercially viable for drones to transport larger things yet. We chose pharmacy items because they’re typically very small and easy to transport.

What if something goes wrong?

Our drones have software to mitigate their damage in the event of catastrophic failure. If you accidentally drop your order in a tree, we can help you with that too.

Why Did You Pick The Mission?

The lack of tall buildings and relatively flat landscape make our aerial mapping much easier. Since the drones can fly “as the crow flies”, it makes it a great place to start.

Have any of the drones started looking for Jon Connor?

No. Our drones are aware of many things, but “self awareness” is not on our feature list.
